Many established academic institutions recognize the need to offer some of their degree programs online for distance learners and professionals who cannot take time off from work.  Unfortunately, there are also enterprising individuals who use the boom in online education to make money without offering any educational value in return.  How can you tell legitimate academic institutions from the fakes?

Before signing up for any online degree program, look for reviews on online schools written by fellow students.  Don’t look at the testimonials on the school website; instead, look for independent websites that compile honest student reviews, experiences, and their ratings of the institution.   Not only will you be able to distinguish the legitimate institutions from the fakes ; you will also get a good idea of what to expect from the degree you’re interested in.  

Be an informed applicant and do your research on the institution before signing up for any online degree programs.
