- Originally the Academy of Art Advertising, the Academy of Art University (AAU) was founded in 1929.
- The Academy of Art University is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), which is one of the six regional accrediting agencies.
- Some notable alumni include Chris Milk, music video director for U2 and Green Day, and Deanne Fitzmaurice, winner of the 2005 Pulitzer Prize.
- AAU has many notable faculty members, including Terryl Whitlatch, creature designer for Star Wars, and Jan Yanehiro, an Emmy awarded broadcast journalist.

AAU currently has approximately 42 online degree and certificate programs and is continuing to expand their online offerings on a regular basis.

You can earn an associates, bachelors, or masters degree. There are also awards of completion programs.
Academic Calendar
AAU’s online program follows a traditional academic schedule. There are fall, spring, and summer semesters, as well as a summer intersession. Regular semesters are 20 weeks in length, and the summer intersession is a three-week study abroad course. The summer intersession will vary and can include art and architectural studies in Europe and Italy.
