What Is Distance Learning?

This is a college course program that has been adapted for a student to learn away from the classroom. In the past, this was done through the mail. Packets were sent out, and they purchased their books. Any help had to be done by letter, and it was slow going. But that has changed, thanks to the web…now everything is online.

Are Distance Learning Programs Accredited?

Most of them. There will occasionally be a course offered that isn’t, and those should be avoided. But most will have full accreditation from regional agencies, and a few will have secondary accrediting from national agencies. This is most commonly seen with either medical or business fields.

Is Everything Really Online?

It depends on whether or not you are taking an online class or a combination class. The combination programs have between half and two-thirds of the course online, while the rest is completed online. This is a necessary program type for certain degrees, such as in science fields that need lab work, however, most universities offer 100% online degree programs.

Why Choose Distance Learning?

Convenience, usually. Not everyone can work in a traditional college setting, and might have trouble being in large classrooms. Or, it might be difficult to work it into a schedule, especially for those who have to work, or take care of families.
